Leone Frollo biography

Leone Frollo (9 April 1931 - 17 October 2018; Venice, Italy)

Frollo was born in Venice, Italy. Initially he studied as an architect, but failing to find success he was persuaded to become involved in comics.

Leone Frollo made his comic book debut in 1948 with 'Sui Grandi Laghi', a series published in Risveglio and had his first story published in an English magazine. It was received so well by the publisher, Fleetway that they retained his service for many other projects where he continued to work until 1963.

After that, until the mid-1980s he did works in several genres, including fantasy and horror, but specially erotic comics. His main work in the erotic genre in this period is Biancaneve, based on Snow White, Lucifera and Yra, which he did for Edifumetto.

From 1958 to 1963, he worked for Fleetway in London, where he made numerous war stories. Also for the British market, Frollo created several sentimental stories with the Roy Dami studios.

Despite illustrating Westerns, Science Fiction, machines, horror, costumes etc, he is also considered as a key exponent of erotic art with illustrations on paper with watercolour, pencil, and pastels, and Frollo's women put on and take off their clothes in a wickedly exhibitionist manner.

After 1987, he changed his style and drew some series for the French market: Malicieusement Femmes, Mona Street and Diva. Mona Street, the erotic adventures of a young American lady, just graduated from college in Boston, set in the first decade of the 20th century, was Frollo's last comic work.
