These illustrations from 'A Child's History Of England' depict various moments in Britain's history. The first panel depicts tailors at the end of the 18th century. The second panel shows a medieval feast and the third panel shows a pre-Macadam road circa 18th century.

Robert Wilson Matthews born in Edinburgh in 1880 began as an illustrator in the early 20th century. An alumni of The Edinburgh College of Art he is best known for his illustrations in H.W. Meikle's 'Story Of England' (Oliver & Boyd) and the illustrated works of Alexandre Dumas (Collins Clear Press). Matthews took a medical commission circa 1928 and was one of the most well respected medical illustrators of the 20th century.

  Robert Wilson Matthews born in Edinburgh in 1880 (some sources say 1895) and began as an illustrator in the early 20th century. An alumni of The Edinburgh College of Art he is best known for his illustrations in H.W.
