L'Assassin Qui Parle Aux Oiseaux (The Assassin Who Talks to Birds) (French edition)
Volumes 1 & 2 of L'Assassin Qui Parle Aux Oiseaux (The Assassin Who Talks to Birds), the graphic novel by Jean-Claude Servais published by Dupuis in 2005. In French.
When young Blaise van Hoppen moves to a village in the Belgian countryside with his deaf and mute mother, the locals immediately make him feel like he is not one of them.
Poor, without a husband or father, and with a Flemish-sounding name, the mother and son quickly become outcasts who are barely tolerated. A dreamer and bird enthusiast, Blaise lives in his own world until the day he finds himself charged with murder. A perfect culprit, he sees his life turned upside down and the prison doors close on his future. Nearly fifteen years later, after serving his sentence, he returns to the village, where he still owns the house he inherited from his mother.
Stigmatized by the villagers, he leads a solitary life, illuminated by the songs of the birds that he cherishes above all else. But his return disturbs more than one person, whose conscience does not seem as clear as it should be.
