Dietrich Monten biography

Dietrich Monten (18 September 1799 - 13 December 1843)

In 1816 Dietrich Monten started a law degree at the University of Bonn, however he terminated his studies and completed his military service in 1818. In 1821 he attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy where he studied with Peter Cornelius, whom he followed shortly afterwards to Munich. There he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under Peter von Hess history painting, continued by several study trips.

His enthusiasm for the military is reflected in his many battle scenes and representations of various rulers during their campaigns.
