HMS Dasher -- The Ship That Shouldn't Have Been Sunk. The ship's complement of aircraft on the Dasher - a converted American aircraft carrier - was being refuelled when an explosion (blamed on the ignition of petrol fumes from a leaky valve) holed the hull and she sank to the bottom of the Ardrossan.
