This is the original Gouache painting by Angus McBride.

William Penn makes a treaty of friendship with the locals at Shakumaxon. The State he founded was granted as payment for a debt of £16,000 that King Charles II owed Penn's father.

A fine study by Angus McBride who captures very well the noble intentions of the occasion.

From the series The Making of America: A Nation Divided. From Look and Learn no. 406 (25 October 1969).
