This is the unique original Pen & Ink drawing by Robert Wilson Matthews.

These illustrations from 'A Child's History Of England' depict Canterbury Cathedral (panel 1) and an illustration of a woodcarving by Grinling Gibbons (panel 2). Grinling Gibbons dubbed 'the Michelangelo of wood' created many of the wooden features in Canterbury Cathedral and many other prestigious buildings.

Robert Wilson Matthews born in Edinburgh in 1880 began as an illustrator in the early 20th century. An alumni of The Edinburgh College of Art he is best known for his illustrations in H.W. Meikle's 'Story Of England' (Oliver & Boyd) and the illustrated works of Alexandre Dumas (Collins Clear Press). Matthews took a medical commission circa 1928 and was one of the most well respected medical illustrators of the 20th century.
