This is the unique original Gouache painting by Ronald Lampitt.

This art board was painted by Ronald Lampitt in 1971 for an article titled 'Friends- and Foes' in the 5th Treasure Book of Animals.

The three animals depicted are, Pelorus, the dolphin who would guide steam vessels in New Zealand in the dangerous waters between Pelorus Island and the French Pass. The dolphin apparently did not appear for sailing ships.

Next are Hannibal's Elephants, which have gone down in legend for helping him bring men and equipment through perilous conditions in order to defeat the Roman army.

And third we have the Black Rat, originally from India, responsible for helping to spread the bubonic plague in the 13th Century.

All beautifully painted by Ronald Lampitt, this is a delightful art board.
