This is the original Gouache painting by Richard Hook.

The appearance of motor buses in London was greeted with hatred and derision by many people who still considered the elegant hansom cab was the only way to travel.

In 1905 10,500 horse-drawn vehicles thronged the streets of London. By 1911 hardly a single horse-bus clip-clopped through the streets. Note the adverts for Lux, Pears and Whiteleys department store.

Another fine painting by Richard Hook used to illustrate the series The Edwardians. This episode was published in look and Learn #583, 17th March 1973.
