History of The Channel Tunnel (Original) by Wilf Hardy at The Illustration Art Gallery

Ref: HardyInvasion (Click for LARGE picture)

Artist: Wilf Hardy (biography)
Medium: Gouache on Board
Size: 9" x 13" (240mm x 320mm)
Date: 1976

This is the unique original Gouache painting by Wilf Hardy.

An historical montage by Wilf Hardy. Eighteen years before the Channel Tunnel first went into operation Hardy imagines a train (an APT) under the English Channel.

Above that we see Napoleon's dream of an invasion of the British Isles nearly two hundred years earlier. Plans were drawn up for both a tunnel and an aerial invasion.

The art was used as page 71 of the Look and Learn book 1976 but probably appeared in the magazine a few years previously.
