This is the unique original Gouache painting by Ron Embleton.

A scene from an early Spanish settlement as an Indian, Samoset, astonishes the settlers by walking boldly in and speaking to them in broken English.

Old muskets and pikes are the weapons the settlers have to disarm this possible hostile confrontation. Embleton achieves a great sense of detail in this painting which was originally painted on board for a page in Finding Out Magazine and also used in the Look and Learn series 'The Spanish in America'.
