Ron Embleton (biography)Medium:
Gouache on BoardSize:
11" x 5" (275mm x 120mm)Date:
1964This is the original Gouache painting by Ron Embleton.
A gorgeous ambush scene here as a rider on horseback wearing a tricorn arrives silhouetted at the crest of a hill. Embleton paints this dusk scene in a beautifully faded wash from red through to blue and green hues and back again, over-laid by starkly contrasted trees, shadows and undergrowth. Tension is in the air and we almost hold our breaths as the inevitable unfolds.
The small portrait to the left of the main painting, shows a native who has sided with the British wearing a gorget with G R inscribed, a sign that he is from a tribe who has allied with the British.
This board was painted and Titled 'Patriots and Loyalists' for Finding Out magazine.
