This is the original Gouache painting by Ron Embleton.

This painting by Embleton depicts a vivid siege with Red Coats being slaughtered by the defenders of the wooden fort. The silhouetted figures falling all around the commanding officer paint a bleak outlook for the rest of the battalion who are advancing slowly to the brow of the hill.

Embleton paints the sky a misty wash of yellows and greys, invoking a sense of desperation and musty gun smoke, all the whilst painting the uniforms and facial expressions with painstakingly accurate detail. This is a small yet moving piece.
