This is the unique original Gouache painting by Graham Coton.

Portrait of Captain Arthur Phillip who in January 1788 lead a fleet of ships into the supposedly wonderful natural harbour at Botany Bay. He realised immediately that the place was not fit even for a penal colony and searched until he found a much better landfall at Sydney Cove. The rest, as they say, is history.

From Look and Learn issue 699, 7th June 1975.
