This is the unique original Gouache painting by Ken Petts.

The Terrible Trek. Douglas Mawson's four month trek across the Antarctic in 1912. His two companions died during a three hundred mile trek.

The first man was lost with their main sledge containing supplies when it fell into a crevasse. The second man succumbed to frost-bite after they had already had to start sacrificing their remaining dogs.

An excellent depiction of the exhausted Mawson graced the cover of Look and Learn #491 12th June 1971.
