This is the unique original Gouache painting by Patrick Nicolle.

William Booth. As an apprentice to a pawnbroker in Nottingham's slums, young Booth had seen, with painful clarity, what poverty did to people.

It was not long before Booth had begun his own private war against sin and suffering, preaching in the open air to anyone who would stop to listen.

Original artwork for illustration on p17 of Look and Learn issue no 654 (27 July 1974).
