This is the Signed original Pen & Ink Wash by Fortunino Matania.

This is the ORIGINAL ART for the front cover of The Sphere dated July 18th 1914.

The scene depicts the King and Queen in Scotland. The Royal couple visited the Parkhead forge in Glasgow and inspected the operations of gun making. They were presented with a 100 ton crane carrying a steel sling with a little girl carrying a bouquet. Her name was Miss Annie Dunlop, daughter of one of the timekeepers at the forge.

As always with Matania originals the detail and draftsmanship is superb.

This image is featured in the book The Art of Fortunino Matania: catalogue of original art & prints as FIG 124. The original art for this page is also in the catalogue as FIG 45.
