This is the Signed original Pen & Ink Wash by Cecil Doughty.

This beautifully executed painting by Cecil Doughty portraying Londoners fleeing the great Fire of 1666, was painted in 1950 and reproduced for an edition of Finding Out Magazine in 1972.

The sky above London is ablaze with flame and everyone from servants and children are clustered in small row boats. A lady clutches a new-born infant to her breast whilst a father clutches his head in desperation. People rush down the quayside carrying trunks and valuables, attempting to salvage anything of worth they can.

Doughty manages to create an entirely believable and human scene using gorgeously smooth washes. This is a magnificent signed example of his work.
