79 Much of this artwork was lost to view for many years: a few examples of artwork from the Arthurian Legends were held by collectors, but The Illustration Art Gallery has recently unearthed some of the very finest images from the series, and are offering these sumptous paintings for sale on their website—for collectors of Anne and Janet Grahame Johnstone’s art, this represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to own some of the finest illustration art that the twins produced. The paintings are rich in detail, with a sumptuous palette which adds a sense of period and location to the twins’ finely detailed compositions. As revealed in issue 5 of illustrators , the twins would pass artworks back and forth between themselves, with Janet specialising in the animals and Anne ABOVE: The Horses of Rhesus , illustration from ‘Tales of the Greeks and Trojans. The twins invested the Greek legends series with flair and assurance, having delved deep into preliminary research utilising their copious reference library, as well as frequent visits to the nearby Victoria and Albert Museum with its well- stocked Greek Classical Antiquities department.
