78 Finding Out with Anne & Janet Grahame Johnstone The Johnstone twins were at the height of their powers, when in 1962 they were commissioned to illustrate some of the most captivating stories ever told. When Anne and Janet Grahame Johnstone were chosen to contribute their considerable artistic prowess to a new weekly UK publication entitled Finding Out they were well and truly seasoned illustrators at the top of their game. The resultant paintings that they created for adaptations of stories from Ancient Greece, the Arthurian Legends and World Folk Tales were scripted by the eminent fantasy writer Roger Lancelyn Green. The combination of talents ensured that these stories would be brought to life in a way that would prove irresistable to young readers and their parents. The stories were eventually collected together and published as books throughout the 1960s. ABOVE: The Johnstone twins photographed in 1953, near the start of their career. Located in Kensingon and close to the Albert Hall and Kensington gardens, they would spend much of the formative years of their career working there, until relocating to the village of Badingham in 1966.
