90 Katyuli Lloyd Meet one of the brightest new talents who is applying her distinct and vibrant vision to classic texts. Katyuli Lloyd’s work vibrates with warmth and light. As a result she has created a buzz, picked up commissions and been shortlisted for prestigious awards. The illustrations that generated this acclaim were for a comparatively little-known book called ‘Flush: A Biography’ written by Virginia Woolf, where the author views the world through the eyes of Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s cocker spaniel. Katyuli took the text and wove her magic on it and in doing so has created her own distinctive identity. Her love of art springs from a deep wellspring: her family on both sides, and going back several generations, is steeped in the arts. When she was a little girl, she and her sister shared a bedroom decorated with murals painted by their mother and drawing was an instinctive pastime for Katyuli. Subjects for her drawings included her border collie, ABOVE: Elizabeth Barret Browning from 'Flush'. RIGHT: Cover to Patrick Leigh Fermor's 'Mani', published by The Folio Society May 2017. BELOW: 'Flush at Vaucluse', from Virginia Woolf's 'Flush', published by Grupo Autêntica 2016.
