E X P A N D E D E D I T I O N SAINT OSWALD’S, Abbot of STORY 90: “THE HANGING JUDGE” DRAWN ONLY STRIP 9620 In charge of the silent order of monks whose abbey has been taken over by Simon Vance as part of his highly elaborate plot to revenge himself on the former Home Secretary Sir Robert Beaumont. When Vance is told by Calder that his night guard, Downey, has been found drugged and unconscious he threatens to blow out the Abbot’s brains unless the silent monks speak up and tell him what has happened. It is the un-named monk (see below) who breaks his silence for the second time that evening and tells what he knows. SAINT OSWALD’S, A monk of the silent order STORY 90: “THE HANGING JUDGE”: STRIP 9610 Un-named monk who lets Modesty into the monastery under the supervision of Downey. When Modesty knocks Downey out and asks him to break his vow of silence in order to save a girl’s life he does so and tells her all that has gone on since Vance arrived on the scene. Asks her name so that he might pray for her. Later, when Downey has been found unconscious and drugged he is obliged to break his vow of silence for a second time in order to save the life of the Abbot who is being threatened with having his brains blown out by Simon Vance. Reveals that the name of the young woman that he let in was Modesty. SAAD (Old Saad) STORY 84: “HONEYGUN” TEXT ONLY STRIP 8970 A man who rents camels and mules in Tahala. Willie and Modesty use his services when they are on the track of Honeygun’s hideout in the ancient fort of Wadi Bedrou. SABINI STORY 17: “TAKEOVER” STRIP 1920 Mafia hoodlum rehearsing the British armed bank robbers for their next job. He behaves like a film director with a set, with the robbers masked and carrying their weapons. He is also in charge of the “special scene” at which two dissident local boys are hung. Thinks British talent is a bit raw but is confident that it can be licked into shape. Killed in the final battle in the Sonoracast studios. SACCHI STORY 32: “THE RELUCTANT CHAPERON”: STRIP 3675 Member of a Mafia hit team sent by Calzini to murder Rossi. Told to move in at the back of Modesty’s villa while his two companions go in at the front. He fails to notice a lurking Willie, is surprised, and that’s the last that is heard of him. SAGASTA, Miguel STORY 87: “FRASER’S STORY” TEXT ONLY STRIP 9324 Former Chief of Police and now Minister of Defence of Panama. First appeared in the 1969 novel “A Taste for Death” and later in two of the short stories. This is the first and only reference to him in the strip stories and he has never been drawn. An old friend of Modesty from the days of The Network and later.
