This is the Signed unique original Gouache painting by Richard Hook.
A stunning depiction of two Sabre-Toothed Tigers defending their lair. The article explains the discovery of Smilodon remains in the California tar pits at Ranco-La-Brea. Water covered the tar pools in ancient times and animals coming down to drink would be caught in the sticky tar. Their cries for help were heard by predatory carnivores who in turn were caught in the tar.
Research has shown that only young inexperienced Smilodons were caught out this way. A wonderful portrait of these fierce beasts by Richard Hook that originally appeared in Look and Learn issue 443, 11th July 1970. Professionally matted and framed.
