Artist: Philip Corke Medium: Gouaches on Board Size: 12" x 17" (310mm x 420mm) Date: 1974 Code: CorkeTrig301174DLL
These are the unique original Gouache paintings by Philip Corke.
Philip Corke took over the illustration work for 'More Adventures of The Trigan Empire' from Miguel Quesada in 1974 and painted the strip solidly in his graphic style for over a year.
Using a combination of airy dreamlike pastel toned panels contrasting boldly with dense heavily inked sections, Corke achieves a fast-paced visual narrative.
Specialising in characters with grotesque visual features and creatures with gruesome abnormalities, Corke's pages may still be remembered by some readers of Look and Learn to this day.
Philip Corke; UK British artist who worked on the Trigan Empire for a year in 1974-75. Previously he had illustrated a number of books for North Cheap publisher's Young World Productions. Following this brief sojourn into comics, he returned to illustrating books and posters, mostly historical subjects, also penning titles for the LongmanButterfly Books series.
