Boilerplate plus Bundle
Meet Boilerplate, the world's first robot soldier, not in a present-day military lab or a science-fiction movie, but in the past, during one of the most fascinating periods of U.S. history.
Designed by Professor Archibald Campion in 1893 as a prototype, for the self-proclaimed purpose of “preventing the deaths of men in the conflicts of nations”, Boilerplate and Professor Campion had remarkable adventures around the globe including the Klondike Gold Rush, fighting alongside Teddy Roosevelt at San Juan Hill, riding in the sands with Lawrence of Arabia, and finally ending up at the frontlines of World War I in France.
Campion and his robot also circled the planet with the U.S. Navy, trekked to the South Pole, made silent movies, and hobnobbed with the likes of Mark Twain and Nikola Tesla.
Boilerplate is a steampunk fictional robot that would have existed in the Victorian era and early 20th century. It was created in 2000 by Portland, Oregon USA artist Paul Guinan. Originally intended for comics, the character became known via a faux-historical website created by Guinan, and has since appeared in other media.
This collection of 3 Boilerplate books features:
Boilerplate - Unpublished (SIGNED):
A signed collection of work from the unpublished Boilerplate graphic novel. This 25-page book also includes some of the thumbnails for these excerpts, character sketches, and a vehicle design.
The Last Mission Of Boilerplate (SIGNED):
A signed '24-hour' comic produced by Paul Guinan at the 'Things From Another World' store in Portland, Oregon in 2013.
Boilerplate - History's Mechanical Marvel:
The official illustrated history of Boilerplate, a turn-of-the-last century robot, and its colourful adventures around the world, including some with key historical figures. After losing a loved one to war, the brilliant Professor Archibald Campion invented a robot soldier and unveiled it at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. This full-color hard cover chronicle is profusely illustrated with graphics mimicking period style, including photos, paintings, posters, cartoons, maps, and even stereoscope cards. Part Jules Verne and part Zelig, it's a great volume for a broad range of fans of science fiction, history, and robots.
