This is the unique original Pen & Ink Wash by John S Smith.

The top picture shows the massive bow of the RMS Queen Mary. The bottom picture shows the former RMS Queen Elizabeth (renamed Seawise University) burning in Hong Kong Harbour on 9th January 1972.

The ship later capsizes in the harbour and was dismantled for scrap between 1974 and 1975. The 1974 James Bond movie, The Man with the Golden Gun, featured the wreck as a secret MI6 headquarters.

This is the original artwork from Look and Learn, no. 750, 29th May 1976.
  • Artist Biography
    John Stephen Smith (1921 - 2010; UK)
    John started drawing from an early age and he went to art school just prior to World War II when he was called up and joined the Royal Navy. He served on the Cruiser HMS Niagara on the Malta and Russian convoys. After the war he continued his art studies and career.

    His work has been commissioned by most shipping companies and railway companies and his art has been used by many leading publishers in the UK and USA.
