This is the unique original Pen & Ink drawing by R. Charles Roylance.

This is two original artworks by R. Charles Roylance for Captain Hurricane published in Valiant comic on 2nd August 1969.

Featuring one complete page where Captain Hurricane, fuelled by his disdain for Maggot, throws a gang of German soldiers of a wooden platform by ripping it apart.

Also features a second, cut, page where Maggot, once again, shows his ineptitude.

Captain Hurricane was a fictional comic book character in Fleetway Publications' Valiant during the 1960s and 1970s, first appearing in issue #1 (Oct 1962). Captain Hurricane's adventures were scripted by the likes of Scott Goodall and Desmond Pride; Jon Rose also wrote some stories in the 1970s. R. Charles Roylance drew the strip for many years.
  • Artist Biography

    R. Charles Roylance (born c. 1930; UK)
    R. Charles Roylance was a British comics artist who drew Captain Hurricane in Valiant and The Best of the West in Lion, as well as other IPC strips including Nipper. He also drew for Cowboy Comics Library between 1953 and 1961, and for Warlord in the 1970s.

The earliest work seems to be for the book Valerie Steps Out by Samuel Thomas James in 1948. His most recent comics work appears to be a handful of strips in Warlord in 1976, as per GCD. That's a career of at least 28 years.

Captain Hurricane was a fictional comic book character in Fleetway Publications' Valiant during the 1960s and 1970s, first appearing in issue #1 (Oct 1962). Captain Hurricane's adventures were scripted by the likes of Scott Goodall and Desmond Pride; Jon Rose also wrote some stories in the 1970s.[3] R. Charles Roylance drew the strip for many years.

Hercules Hurricane was a former ship's captain who subsequently joined the British Royal Marines Commandos, fighting against the German and Japanese armed forces in the 2nd World War. With his batman, "Maggot" Malone (previously a ship's cook), he battled the Axis powers with his superhuman strength that appeared whenever he became enraged.

After the Captain Hurricane strip ended in 1976, Roylance was listed as "editor" of Battle for many years.

Roylance is also listed as one of the twelve artists of Longbow, the others being Don Lawrence, Geoff Campion, Keith Shone, Jesus Blasco, Juan Gonzalez Alacreu, Francisco Cueto, Gerry Haylock, Frank Humphris, Cesar Lopez, Rodney Sutton and Martin Salvador.

    Biographical conjecture
Little is known about R. Charles Roylance and it isn't a particularly common surname.

Assuming he was at least 18 by the time he illustrated his first book, he must have been born in 1930 or earlier. Assuming the strips in Warlord aren't reprints, he lived until at least 1976. In which case, I've got four candidates:

Robert C. Roylance, born Warrington, Lancashire, 1913, mother's maiden name Hands. No death date identifiable (Genes Reunited records go up to 2006).
Robert Roylance, born Leigh, Lancs, 1907. Died Leigh, Lancs, 1988.
Ronald Roylance, born Salford, 1921, mother's maiden name Keegan. No death date before 2006.
Ronald Roylance, born Oldham, 1928, mother's maiden name Leech. Died Oldham, 2005.
