This is the Signed unique original Pen & Ink drawing by Robert Wilson Matthews.

These illustrations from 'A Child's History Of England' depict moments from history. The first panel shows The Santa Maria (15th century). The second panel shows Dr Livingstone helping to free African slaves from their bonding (19th century).

Robert Wilson Matthews born in Edinburgh in 1880 began as an illustrator in the early 20th century. An alumni of The Edinburgh College of Art he is best known for his illustrations in H.W. Meikle's 'Story Of England' (Oliver & Boyd) and the illustrated works of Alexandre Dumas (Collins Clear Press). Matthews took a medical commission circa 1928 and was one of the most well respected medical illustrators of the 20th century.

    Robert Wilson Matthews (1880 or 1885 - ?1940; Edinburgh, Scotland)
    Robert Wilson Matthews born in Edinburgh in 1880 (some sources say 1895) and began as an illustrator in the early 20th century. An alumni of The Edinburgh College of Art he is best known for his illustrations in H.W. Meikle's 'Story Of England' (Oliver & Boyd) and the illustrated works of Alexandre Dumas (Collins Clear Press).

    Matthews took a medical commission circa 1928 and was one of the most well respected medical illustrators of the 20th Century.

    He usually signed his work with his initials R.W.M.
