This is the unique original Watercolour painting by John Keay.

When Night becomes Day. A thorough cleaning of Rembrandt's masterpiece The Night Watch revealed that the picture was not of a night scene after all. A distinguished visitor views the painting as Rembrandt completes a section of The Night Watch and sees himself in the picture. Inset shows Self-Portrait by Rembrandt.

Rembrandt left more than 100 self-portraits showing what he looked like from the time when he was a young man until his death in 1669.

Original artwork for the illustrations on p23 of Look and Learn issue no. 1005 (13 June 1981). Please note inset portrait of Rembrandt is a paste-up of the artist's famous self-portrait.
