Roy Crane's Buz Sawyer Volumes 1 - 4
Roy Crane created the adventure comic strip with Wash Tubbs, and many a superhero owes a debt to Crane's square-jawed, hard-hitting adventurer Captain Easy. But during World War II, he left the Captain Easy strip to create a more realistic fighting man, a Navy pilot named John Singer Sawyer, who fought in the Pacific Theater from 1943 until V-J Day in 1945.
The first book in the series reprints the Buz Sawyer strip, all of the daily strips published during World War II. The book also includes a selection of the best of the Sunday strips, which featured Buz Sawyer's pal and gunner, Roscoe Sweeny. It features some of Crane's most atmospheric drawing, aided by his expert use of Craftint tones, luscious romance, and exciting action scenes.
Volume 2 of Buz Sawyer reprints from 1945 to 1947, creator Roy Crane really hit his stride. Adventure and, of course, romance follow Buz on his globe-spanning travels. This volume contains both daily strips plus more full color Sunday pages than our first Buz volume! A perfect combination of masterful cartooning and rip-roaring storytelling sure to please young and old alike.
The third instalment in the rollicking adventures of bon vivant Buz Sawyer are brought vividly and gorgeously to life through creator Roy Crane's surefooted writing and stunning storytelling. Swashbuckling Buz sally-forths once again on a series of adventures filled with knock-out women, brutal assassins, and extremely bad weather.
In Volume 4, Buz Sawyer hightails it to Switzerland to investigate the mysterious Mr. Zazarof, believed to be behind a series of oil well explosions. But Zazarof is all smites, and he invites Buz to go mountain climbing. What could possibly go wrong at the hands of a sinister saboteur on the icy slopes of the Alps? Hardly pausing for breath, Buz Sawyer: Zazarof's Revenge picks up where our previous volume left off and presents eleven complete stories of this classic American adventure series, taking us through the end of the 1940s and into the 1950s.
