This is the Signed unique original Gouache painting by F Stocks May.

A large dramatic painting of John Hampden (1594 - 1643), first cousin of Oliver Cromwell and Member of Parliament. On June 18th 1643 during the English Civil War, John Hampden lead a small party of cavalry attempting to slow down Prince Rupert's dash up the Thames.

At Chalgrove he received two bullets to the shoulder and died of his wounds six days later at Thame, Oxfordshire. A statue of him stands today in The House of Parliament. A wonderful portrayal of this great man's final days.
