This is the Signed unique original Gouache painting by Roger Payne.
Front cover of Look and Learn issue 398, published 30th August 1969. Two girls in "traditional costume" dance in the panel to the left.
To the right an athlete throws a hammer. The hammer is a round metal ball (weighing 16 or 22 lb. for men or 12 or 16 lb. for women) is attached to the end of a shaft about 4 feet in length and made out of wood, bamboo, rattan, or plastic.
The most popular games in the UK are held at Braemar south of Inverness. Good early work from the inventive Roger Payne. Please note both panels are pasted onto a backing board and the hammer ball is also, strange but effective.
