In 1793 Notre Dame de Paris was rededicated to the Cult of Reason, and then to the Cult of the Supreme Being. During this time the cathedral was occupied by the mob, who beheaded statues and plundered the treasures of the cathedral. For a time Notre Dame was used as a warehouse.
Wonderful illustration of the revolutionary ferment within France, from Bible Story, no. 4, 26th March 1962.
