Race on the Mississippi (Original)
Medium: Watercolour on Acid-free Paper
Size: 20" x 11" (510mm x 290mm)
Date: 1975
Code: 20thLeeLL
This is the unique original Watercolour painting by 20th Century unidentified artist.
In 1870 the captains of the Natchez and the Robert E Lee steamboats raced their craft from New Orleans up the river to St Louis.
The Robert E Lee won the race by virtue of taking only 75 passengers, making none of its usual stops and being refuelled whilst still travelling at top speed. People still argue as to which was truly the faster vessel.
A lovely atmospheric painting that was originally published in Look and Learn #700 14th June 1975.
