Frederick Henry Linton Townsend (1868 - 1920; London, UK) Townsend was born in London and studied at the Lambeth School of Art. He contributed to Punch and became its art editor in 1905.
He illustrated many books prior to this appointment, including Jane Eyre (1896), Rob Roy (1897), The Scarlet Letter (1897), The House of the Seven Gables (1897) and many more.
