Enric Josep Toutain EDITORIAL 74 Pepe Gonzalez Seductive yet powerful—a painter whose dark fantasies have created an international fan base. 48 Sanjulian The contents of this first special issue of illustrators speaks for itself. Despite the interest and enthusiasm for the work of the many European artists who helped power Warren's horror magazines into pole position throughout the 1970s, there has been a paucity of information about these creatives and the man who engineered what was a truly remarkable export drive of talent fromhis studio in Barcelona—Josep Toutain. It was reading reviews of Dynamite Publishing' s line of Vampirella Archives that first alerted us to the existence of that rare combination of commentator on such undertakings—a writer with talent, in-depth knowledge and first-hand acquaintance of the artists whose work he was reviewing. That man was Diego Cordoba and his passion, as well as his knowledge and involvement with Josep Toutain's legendary studio and the artists whomade it pulsate with life, are what makes this such a vital and compelling read. In addition to thankingDiego for his unstinting input on this project, wemust also say a big thank you to David Roach, Joe Jusko, Tom Stimpson, Gene Park, Jesus Duce, Rick Loshiavo, Enric Torres Prat, Sanjulian, Luis Garcia Mozos, EstebanMaroto, Jordi Bernet, Heritage Auctions and the good folks at Dynamite Publishing —without your combined efforts on our behalf, none of this would have been acheivable!
