The work of Alan Lee needs little introduction, but despite the fact that this Oscar winning illustrator is still immersed in work on Peter Jackson’s ‘Hobbit’ trilogy, he still found timeover a truncatedChristmasbreak, to furnishuswithamassivequantityof high resolution scans. As a result we can share beautiful reproductions of some of his earliest paintings along with the story of his journey to becoming one of the most extraordinary fantasy illustrators the world has ever seen. BrynHavord takes a look at the maritime paintings of Bernie Fuchs in the first of two features on this legendary illustrator. John Vernon Lord’s beautifully obsessive work is complimented by the depth and insight of his analysis of the creative process. He has successfully balanced a career as an illustrator with that of a teacher of the craft, and his reputation in both fields ensures that he is heavily in demandwith both publishers, and on the lecture circuit. Leif Peng will be familiar to many of our readers as the man behind the remarkable illustration blog, ‘Today’s Inspiration’ and its Facebook cousin the ‘TI Group’. He is also a professor of illustration at Mohawk University and, somehow—don’t ask me how, he also squeezes in time as one of Canada’s premier illustrators. We are delighted to have the opportunity to share some of his amazing and dynamic workwith you.
