This issue is no exception, and with our associate editor Bryn Havord not only writing a couple of fascinating features, but also applying his experienced eye to the finer points of typography and layout, I feel we now have a truly professional and stylish finish that befits a publication celebrating some of the finest art any reader could wish to encounter. Bryn was not only commissioning some of the greatest illustrators on both sides of the Atlantic throughout the 1960s and 1970s, but won two national awards for his work as a magazine and newspaper designer. He was special projects art editor responsible for the pre-production dummies of Nova magazine, which is rightly regarded as one of the iconic style magazines of its time. He is also a best-selling non-fiction author, as well as a regular contributor to Leif Peng’s Today’s Inspiration illustration blog. Bryn’s feature on the chic and dynamic art of Andy Virgil provides a fascinating insight into the heady 1960s; an era when illustration and illustrators seemed as exciting as the events they portrayed. His feature on Peter Maddocks provides an opportunity to savour the art of one of Fleet Street’s most innovative cartoonists. Our lead feature takes a much needed and long overdue look at the life and career of Fortunino Matania, an artist whose stunning work acted as a visual diary of the rapidly changing world of the early 20th century, as well as a portal into classical antiquity. Keith Chapman rounds out the issue with the stories of his editorship at Micron; one of the most unlikely fly-by-night publishers ever. We would like to extend our thanks as well to Richard Gardner, Sophia Brothers at the National RailwayMuseum, Susan Ross at the CanadianWar Museum, Laurence Heyworth, Anita Virgil, Mitch Itkowitz, Brandi Budziak, and Brian Sanders. Finally we would like to extend a special and overdue thank you to the John Noot Galleries, who provided us with five scans of some exquisite DavidWright artwork, which appeared on pages 10, 14, 15 and 16 of our previous issue.
