82 Norman Saunders’ Trading Cards and Stickers Artwork Trading cards consist of a small card with an image usually printed on cardboard or thick paper, showing a famous personality, or event (fictional or real), with a title underneath, and usually a short text on the back explaining who the person was or some trivia about the event depicted. These card sets can be on sporting events and their main players, or popular comic book characters, television series, car‐ toons or movie stills. BELOW: The Cannon Roars , gouache on board, 1962. Civil War News trading card set (Topps, 1962), card No. 28: “Dateline Malvern Hill, VA — July 1, 1862: ‘More Blood Spilled: Victory for South’.” Celebrating the centenary of the Civil War, this set was considered too violent and was stopped eventually.
