Among the many illustrators Look and Learn carried was John Millar Watt who had children re-live history with his striking watercolour illustrations. David Ashford and Norman Wright combine their forces to bring us a feature on this cherished British illustrator who also worked for the Picture Library series doing covers and comics. Next, we sit with Petar Meseldžija for a very philosophical conversation about art and life in general. Meseld Ž ija is a Serbian artist whose fantasy paintings have appeared in Spectrum , a book collection featuring the best science-fiction and fantasy artists from around the world. He has also done many book covers in the fantasy genre, although he had a career first as a comic book artist, and has now entered the field of Fine Art and art galleries. For our third featureDavidAshford re-acquaints us with PhilipMendoza, an illustratorwhodid some of themost charming drawings of anthropomorphized animals but has unfortunately been largely forgotten. Those who remember reading as children the travels of Gulliver Guinea-Pig, Katy Country Mouse and others, are in for a treat, for the Illustration Art Gallery has a massive collection of some of Mendoza’s most lovable paintings of animals behaving like human- beings. However, Mendoza did more than paint cute animals. He was also a satirical cartoonist, did posters during the Second World War, and dabbled in comic books for Amalgamated Press, doing both realistic thrilling adventures as well as work for their nursery titles. And lastly, in the gallery section Lawrence Blackmore tells us about the enigmatic artist Arthur Barbosa.
