BARRY STORY 64 “SAMANTHA AND THE CHERUB” STRIP 6907 One of the bikers in Samantha’s gang. He and her other friends are used in relays to follow the van containing Modesty and Lucy Kolin when Lamarette is moving them to his house in the country. They keep in touch by walkie-talkie. BARTH, Sam STORY 3: “THE GABRIEL SET-UP”: STRIP 249 Canadian Intelligence Agent sent by Sir Gerald Tarrant to liaise with Modesty in the investigation of the Phoenix Sanatorium. Reports his suspicions about Gabriel having some sort of conference nearby to Willie and goes with him on a scouting trip that confirms them. Orders the police raid on Gabriel's headquarters after realising that Willie, under the impression that Modesty has been killed by Gabriel, has gone there to kill everyone. BARTHOLOMEW, Mr. STORY 24: “WITH LOVE FROM RUFUS” STRIP 2797 Captain of Mister Preston’s yacht. Takes Rufus and Josie as captives to the wartime fort where Rufus has hidden his loot. Told to return at low tide to collect Preston and his men. BARZELLE STORY 14/14B: “THE GALLEY SLAVES” STRIP 1661 One of Lim’s gang on the trireme. Sent forward to try to outflank Modesty. BASIL STORY 55: “THE RETURN OF THE MAMMOTH” STRIP 5939 One of the two guards at Soviet Security Headquarters near the border with Finland. Mysteriously “passes out” when he and his fellow jailer Vasily attempt to beat up Willie, who is in their custody. BAUER (1) STORY 22: “THE STONE AGE CAPER” STRIP 2548 One of Damion (1)’s gang. BAUER (2) STORY 92: “DEATH SYMBOL”: STRIP 9867 French Foreign Légionnaire killed in action by Polisario rebels. He is shown here being pronounced dead by Willie. The ambush in which he was killed is shown in flashback when Willie explains to Modesty why, after his powerful dream, he must go to Katmandu to try to help Paddy Boyd. It was after this action that Boyd saved Willie’s life. The novels refer to his time in the Legion but this is the only sequence in which he is drawn in his Légionnaires uniform. BAUM, Dr. Hans STORY 23: “THE PUPPET MASTER”: STRIP 2628 Mind bending doctor of the title. Employed by Mahmoud to bring about his revenge on Modesty by using drugs and hypno-narcosis to make her kill Willie. When his treatments fail he is fatally stabbed by Mahmoud. He lives long enough to make sure Mahmoud will go to prison for his murder. BAYOU STORY 14/14B: “THE GALLEY SLAVES”: STRIP 1678 One of Lim’s gang on the trireme.
