E X P A N D E D E D I T I O N WADE, Mike STORY 32: “THE RELUCTANT CHAPERON”: STRIP 3639 Modesty’s financial advisor and occasional bedfellow. He is supposed to be spending a month with her at her villa on Malta, swimming, sailing and going over her ramshackle financial affairs. His visit has to be curtailed when an old friend, Joe Lamont, asks her to look after his teenage daughter Jane because he has to go back to America on urgent business. With remarkably good grace he leaves and hitches a ride with Joe to the airport. WALDO STORY 83: “THE MAORI CONTRACT”: STRIP 8899 A Maori warrior and one of the crew of the hundred man war canoe carved by Jason Nash. When he wears a suit and carries a stethoscope he is a hospital consultant in Christchurch. He takes charge of Jason when he is shot and congratulates Modesty on her first aid. WALLACE, Stuart STORY 30: “HIGHLAND WITCH”: STRIP 3505 The reclusive king of a huge financial empire, uncle of Peggy Western and her only living relative. Held prisoner by Sister Binks and two of his former employees, Booth and Jason, and forced to make money, but for their benefit, not his. When Peggy visits him Binks tries to trick her with a stand in but this fails so she tries to murder her. When Peggy is rescued by Modesty she tells her and Willie the situation. They decide to look into matters and set about rescuing him. He is very impressed with Willie and offers him a job, which Willie politely turns down. WALSH, Lieutenant Charlie STORY 26: “THE GALLOWS BIRD”: STRIP 2987 Officer of the New Orleans Police Force. When Modesty and Willie report what has taken place in the docks where Paul Verne was hanged he finds them more than a little disturbing. In his view if a woman is attacked by a man with a meat cleaver, finds another man hanged, cuts him down and tries to give him the kiss of life she should show some sign of nerves and Modesty doesn’t. All is made clear to him by their friend Steve Taylor of the F.B.I. who happens to be on hand. WALTER (1) STORY 5: “THE MIND OF MRS. DRAKE”: STRIP 541 Aide to V.N. Korzon. When Korzon captures Modesty at Mrs. Drake’s house it is he who searches her. Finds the handbag handle kongo but does not know what it is. He is in the car when Modesty creates havoc and almost causes it to crash. Shoots Inspector Rees and in the running fight in the blacked out “Haunted House” he is hit by one of Willie’s knives, hilt first and then knocked out by Modesty. WALTER (2) STORY 41: "YELLOWSTONE BOOTY": STRIP 4623 Employed by Mr. Hogan to dig up the Aztec treasure, he finds one of the first pieces. He is still digging when Willie’s dynamite axe blows up and buries him.
