John Worsley (biography)Medium:
Watercolours on BoardSize:
14" x 11" (360mm x 270mm)Date:
1964These are the original Watercolour paintings by John Worsley.
John Worsley paints up a feast for the eyes in this large painting of Wee Willie Winkie boarding an oyster boat on the Mississippi Delta with his Baby Elephant friend Hannibal. Hannibal is surprised by a crab on the pier, whilst their friend Spike welcomes them aboard. Worsley's washes meet seamlessly between sea and sky in this atmospheric piece.
Please note: this piece is accompanied by two complimentary smaller panels also painted by Worsley for this adventure on the Mississippi, the first of the fishermen cast the dredging net and Hannibal falls overboard, and the second of Hannibal swimming underwater watching the net collect oysters. There is no extra charge for these pieces and they are included entirely free of charge.
Worsley, who spent time in a P.O.W. camp after being captured in Yugoslavia during World War II, achieves a fantastic liberation from the past by painting in such a fluid joyful manner.
Worsley's work can be found in The Imperial War Museum, The Maritime Museum, The collection of HM The Queen, The Savage club and many other private collections including those of Royal Families, banks and Colleges.Click for larger image ...
