This is the unique original Watercolour painting by Patrick Nicolle.

Portrait of Admiral Lord Nelson (1758-1805) writing a dispatch to the Admiralty prior to the Battle of Trafalgar. In the background is a panoramic view of the Battle of Trafalgar, comprising (right to left), the Flagship of the French Admiral, Villeneuve, the Bucentaure (captured by Capt. Israel Pellew of HMS Conqueror); the French ship Achille, in the process of exploding after her magazine caught fire;

H.M.S. Victory, flagship of Lord Nelson; the Spanish ship, Santisima Trinidad, captured by Capt. Thomas Fremantle of H.M.S. Neptune; and finally, H.M.S. Temeraire, commanded by Capt. Eliab Harvey, fighting a French ship and a Spanish ship. Other ships are show in the background.

This is the original artwork from Look and Learn no. 341, 27th July 1968.
