This is the unique original Gouache painting by Patrick Nicolle.

John O'Groats was named after Jan de Groot a Dutch sailor who first organised a ferry service between The Orkney Islands and the mainland. That's his eight sons arguing over their octagonal table.

From the top: the Stacks at Duncansby Head, Dunnet Head (the most northerly point on the mainland) The Castle of May, the City of Thurso, Vikings arriving in Caithness and a Wild Cat with a Pine-Marten, a Stag Deer and two Golden Eagles.

From the series British Headlands, Look and Learn 449, 22 August 1970.
