The Outspoken Duke of Cumberland (Original)

The Outspoken Duke of Cumberland (Original) by British History (Pat Nicolle) at The Illustration Art Gallery

Ref: NicolleEffigy (Click for LARGE picture)

Artist: Patrick Nicolle (biography)
Medium: Gouache on Board
Size: 11" x 5" (270mm x 130mm)
Date: 1971

This is the unique original Gouache painting by Patrick Nicolle.

So unpopular was the Duke of Cumberland (the future King George IV) due to his forthright views on controversial subjects, that mobs jeered his carriage and hung his effigy in public.

Despite this George IV became a Peoples' favourite by reducing corruption in Government during his reign.

It was published in Look and Learn issue 508, 9th October 1971. A wonderful painting by Pat Nicolle that pulls no punches.
