This is the Signed unique original Gouache painting by Angus McBride.

Part of the series From Then Till Now Rockets Sky High. By the 13th Century the Chinese were using rockets to propel fire arrows against their enemies the Mongols. By the 16th Century siege engines in Europe were firing a "war-head" that exploded on impact. Improvements in direction with fins were a 19th Century development.

Robert Goddard an American inventor was the first to use liquid fuel, WWII saw the German V2 terrorising London but that eventually lead to Werner von Braun's work for NASA and the American Space Programme of the 1950s-1970s.

Please note that the art which was published in Look and Learn issue 227, 21st May 1966 was cut into 3 strips and remounted on a clean board when the art was re-used for a feature in the Valiant Book 1979.
