This is the Signed original Gouache painting by Angus McBride.

During World War 2 Lieutenant-Colonel J H Williams - Elephant Bill to his friends - had the job of moving his herd of around 50 elephants, 90 riders and helpers and 60 refugee women and children out of occupied Burma over the hills into the Assam province of India.

He had only five days to organise and yet despite tiny inaccurate small scale maps he not only managed to achieve his goal but reach his intended target exactly.

Artwork originally published in World of Wonder issue 36, 28th November 1970. An adventure worthy of Hannibal himself.
