Janet & Anne Grahame Johnstone (biography)Medium:
Gouache on BoardSize:
13" x 17" (330mm x 420mm)Date:
1965This is the original Gouache painting by Janet & Anne Grahame Johnstone.
This beautifully painted illustration by the twins Janet and Anne Grahame Johnstone titled 'Tricking The Stalos' was published in Roger Lancelyn Green's rare book 'Myths From Many Lands', published 1965 by Purnell.
This illustrates a Lapp fairy-tale involving the kidnap of a young girl by a Stalo (man eating giant) and the revenge her brothers took. The wonderful detailing around the hand painted title along with the beautifully painted reindeer and figures make this a fine example of the Johnstone's work. Janet, who specialised in painting animals would have been responsible for the reindeer silhouettes whilst Anne Grahame would have been in charge of painting outfits and clothing, as she specialised in costume.Click for larger image ...
