This is the unique original Watercolour painting by Wilf Hardy.

Commander Richard Byrd and the South Pole. Setting out from his base at Little America, Commander Richard Byrd intended to be the first man to conquer the South Pole from the air.

This was achieved - only just - after having to jettison emergency food supplies on the 29th November 1929. In 1926 Byrd had been the first man to fly to the North Pole.
